The ground work is being laid to kick off a Superfund campaign in the next few months that will be in collaboration with USPIRG and several other organizations. We are in the midst of trying to compile a list of about 10 Superfund sites across the country that exemplify the worst of the worst egregious sites (program poster children). In order to do so, we are asking for nominations for such sites. While I know most of you do not work on Superfund or Toxics, I am hoping that you have a good pulse on the local community around you and can take just a few minutes and list a site or two in your area that is particularly bad and have the surrounding communities upset. To define this, we are looking for sites that affect groundwater widely, are contaminated by radiation, has chemical contamination, was a pesticide company, a very large mine, or air pollution contamination. These sites should be very detrimental to the community, have a minimum amount of political baggage, and affect health and the environment preferably. It would also be helpful if the site had some grassroots activists working on it or at least a neighborhood group behind it. Please send your nominations to me, at [log in to unmask], so that they can be considered for placement in our list. If possible, please include the EPA name of the site, location (city, state, and county), congressional district, and possibly local people who can speak to the frank nastiness of the site and its affects on the community. Thank you for your time and help with this! ___________________________ Jessica F. Frohman Sierra Club National Conservation Organizer Environmental Quality Program 408 C Street, N.E.
