LEOPOLD CENTER HOSTS NOV. 20 BIOTECH
DISCUSSION
AMES, Iowa-The former director of the National Academy
of Sciences Board on Agriculture and a leading agricultural policy consultant
will be in Ames Nov. 20 to discuss current issues in biotechnology.
The
discussion, "Let's Talk About Biotech: Who controls and who benefits?" will be
6-8 p.m., Wed., Nov. 20 in the Ensminger International Room, 1204 Kildee Hall,
on the Iowa State University campus.
The discussion will feature
comments by Charles Benbrook, owner of Benbrook Consultant Services of
Sandpoint, Idaho, and developer of Ag BioTech InfoNet, one of the Internet's
most extensive independent sources of technical, policy and economic
information on biotechnology. Benbrook, an agricultural economist, worked in
Washington, D.C., on agricultural policy, science and regulatory issues from
1979 through 1997. His technical reports, comments to regulatory agencies,
speeches and analyses, which may be used during the ISU discussion, are on his
web site at www.biotech-info.net.
The
discussion is open to the public and is sponsored by the Leopold Center for
