SEMINARS ON APRIL 2-3 EXAMINE SCIENCE AND POLICY CONCERNING GULF OF MEXICO "DEAD ZONE" Dr. Nancy Rabalais of the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium will present a seminar on science and policy in relation to Gulf of Mexico hypoxia (= oxygen depleted waters) on April 2 as part of ISU's Science and Policy Seminar Series. Rabalais will also give a second seminar on related water quality issues on April 3: TITLE: Beyond Science Into Policy: Gulf of Mexico Hypoxia DATE & TIME: Wednesday April 2, 3:00-5:00 PM LOCATION: 1010 LeBaron Hall TITLE: Continental-Scale Nonpoint Runoff and Coastal Water Quality DATE & TIME: Thursday April 3, 4:00-5:00 PM LOCATION: 1010 LeBaron Hall Dr. Rabalais has been one of the most influential researchers documenting the existence and impact of the Gulf of Mexico hypoxic zone. For her research work and efforts to bring national attention to nutrient over-enrichment in the coastal region influenced by the Mississippi River Basin, Rabalais has been recognized by various honors, including Chair of the Ocean Studies Board of the National Research Council; Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; Fellow of the Aldo Leopold Leadership Program; recipient of the National Oceanic Environmental Heroes Award, the Basker Award for Science and Engineering, and the Ketchum Award of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution; and presidency of the Estuarine Research Federation.
