Sierra Friends:

EPA will release it's Report on the Environment on noon Monday [today],
creating opportunities to talk to editorial boards and reporters and send
Letters to the Editors on the issue of global warming censorship.

I am pasting at the end of this e-mail a powerful letter by Russel Train,
former EPA Administrator under Nixon and Ford, that was printed in the NY
Times on Saturday, forwarded to me from National Sierra Club. He points out
the White House intrusion into the content of the report (censorship!), and
encourages the Bush Administration to take the issue of Global Warming
seriously. We know they don't!

With this story having now played in scores of papers across the country,
this is a great opportunity for Letters To The Editor in your local paper
and the Des Moines Register. I am pasting a sample LTE below, from National,
which may spark you to chip in with ideas of your own. This is a great
opportunity. Please consider submitting an LTE in your own words to your
local paper and the DMR.

Thanks.

>> SAMPLE LTE
>>
>> Russel Train, former Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency,
>> had this to say in response to the White House altering an agency report to
>> downplay the risks of global warming: "Having served as E.P.A. administrator
>> under both Presidents Nixon and Ford, I can state categorically that there
>> never was such White House intrusion into the business of the E.P.A. during
>> my tenure."
>>
>> As the White House forces the E.P.A. to hold back information on the dangers
>> of global warming, special interests are busy pushing an ill-conceived energy
>> bill through Congress that fails to reduce global warming pollution from
>> smokestacks and tailpipes and actually increases our dependence on oil and
>> coal. Congress must avoid following the White House down the path of denial
>> on global warming, and should instead provide leadership in solving the
>> problem by requiring polluters to reduce their emissions.
