Another
Round at Indian Creek
Work
shoulder-to-shoulder with the National Guard, friends of Jefferson County Park, the City of Fairfield, the Sierra Club and
other local groups, and neighborhood volunteers in the second inspired cleanup
effort of Fairfieldıs Indian Creek, Saturday, September 27,
2003.
Come anytime between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM to the wood chip pile on West Jefferson St., behind Econo Foods.
Last April, to give you a sample, with the help of the Guard and three dozen
volunteers, we extracted 80 tires, one car, a truck bed, two washing machines,
car batteries, storm door and childrenıs slide, and we filled dozens of trash
bags.
The stream, known locally as Indian Creek, runs underground its first third of
a mile from Dexter Foundry. The culvert opens to daylight just south of the
Cityıs wood chip pile, and it is from this point downstream where the years of
neglect are apparent. The success of our first cleanup brings our two-pronged
goal within reach ‹ to restore health to a stream, and uncover the
natural beauty of our city.
Come equipped with gloves, boots, long pants and sleeves. We will provide
refreshments. For more information contact Jack Eastman at 641-469-5760.
