Friends,

In contrast to the regional water quality meeting held in Sioux City a
couple months ago, this meeting with the Governor or Lieutenant Governor
requires a more aggressive approach. At that earlier meeting, fully a
third of the participants were Sierra Club members in a crowd of 30.
Last night there were close to 200 people.

Representatives of educational institutions dominated the 90 minute
session, reading long statements about cuts and the great job they are
doing(speakers from the universities, K-12, private colleges, school
districts). Next the health care professionals were ready to speak for
Title XIX. You get the picture.

I submitted three separate written statements but could not edge my way
in to speak. Only one speaker mentioned the Water Quality initiative.
I wish you more luck in Des Moines and Davenport.
