I certainly want to keep the Sierra Club focused on its mission. Yet, I
am left feeling vaguely unsettled by some of the claims that are,
perhaps uncritically, tossed around. I do appreciate Bill Witt's advice
and trust Bill a lot. I have spent about as much time as breaks at work
allow to read materials on this election, news articles and the results
of the questionnaire to candidates. The questionnaire wasn't that
helpful, they all were self described "Saints of San Juaquin."

Candidate Lamm has long been an advocate of Zero Population Growth (now
Population Connection) and that likely includes stands against
immigrants. The US would have a stable population now were it not for
immigrants and their big families. The club is divided on immigration.
But, there would be no environmental problems were there not too many
people problems.

Candidate Pimentel has some solid scientific credentials. The rest of
the candidates are unknown to me.

Getting more specific, I can't seem to find more than innuendo that some
candidates are antihunting, for animal rights, or even white
supremacists. Those are pretty strong charges.

Could someone provide EVIDENCE of candidates' views on these
controversial topics? Thank you. Lanny Schwartz
