Thanks, Jane Clark Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) Meeting at Des Moines Ikes Thursday, March 11 FUTURE OF NATURAL RESOURCES Outdoor and historical interests will have the chance to shape the future of Iowa's premiere outdoor recreation and conservation funding program - REAP - at a 'must-attend event' here Thursday March 11, according to the Iowa DNR. The Des Moines REAP Assembly is from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Izaak Walton League clubhouse, 4343 Valley Drive. Participants will develop lists of natural resource investments needed in their communities to enhance their quality of life and improve their economic condition and make recommendations on REAP policy, programs and funding. "Any resident of Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Marion, Polk, Story or Warren county who has even the slightest interest in natural resources and outdoor recreation should consider this a must-attend meeting," said Jeff Vonk, DNR director. "You will find it highly interesting and well worth your time as you participate to make REAP better and stronger for your part of the state." "REAP's investment in this part of Iowa has been responsible for continually improving a large part of the area's quality of life through recreation, diverse landscapes and environmental health," said Vonk. "This investment is also yielding high economic returns," he said. "It makes sense that we consider both the quality of life and economic return when we make decisions on natural resource developments," Vonk said. He noted that a recent Iowa State University study called for improvements in outdoor recreation facilities as one of the best means to grow the local economy in rural areas under stress. The REAP assembly also includes election of five local delegates to attend the REAP Congress in Des Moines in July. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Make your voice heard!
