This amendment could open all public areas-including state parks and wildlife areas--managed by the Department of Natural Resources to access driveways by adjacent landowners. I urge you to oppose this amendment, which will significantly impact state park and wildlife areas and will also impact the quality of life for all Iowans. If this bill is enacted with this amendment, several private driveways could be constructed across public land that would significantly impact management and public use of these areas. Once precedence for these private roadways is established, additional incentives will be created. State parks and recreation areas contain some of the Iowa's most scenic, natural areas and the proposed private access roads would come at the cost of all park visitors and all Iowa taxpayers. Depending on the frequency of this type of action, the ability to receive federal funding in the future may be jeopardized. Every access allowed across parkland and every car, motorcycle, tractor, etc. will degrade Iowa's park system. State parks are for the public use and benefit for everyone. Again, I urge you to vote no on this amendment that would benefit a few at a cost to the many.
