1. Renewables 2004 concludes successfully in Bonn
Worldwatch's delegation left Bonn, Germany, last Friday satisfied with
the results of the conference and the role the Institute played in
supporting its success. The four days spent on the Rhine River in the
light-filled Bundeshaus--the former home of the German parliament--left
the 3,000-plus participants exhausted but energized by what had been
achieved.
Visit www.worldwatch.org/features/renewables/bonn/part3/ to read the
full report, and www.worldwatch.org/features/renewables/ to view our
our online feature on renewable energy, and earlier reports from
Renewables 2004 in Bonn, Germany.

2. Good Stuff Feature--Making Talk Less Toxic
Like computers, cell phones are short-lived products that present the
clearest threat to humans and the environment when they are being
created or destroyed, as they contain toxics-rich semiconductor chips.

A powerful pro-environmental coalition may be emerging worldwide as
religious people and institutions begin to partner with advocates of
sustainable development. The past decade saw a small but growing
number of meetings, advocacy initiatives, educational programs, and
lobbying efforts by the two communities, who long had kept each other
at arm's length.
