Brief report of the Bush Birdogging event in Cedar Rapids, IA, 7/20/2004: Iowa Sierrans participated in 'protesting' the Bush Rally in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday, at Kirkwood Community College. There were about 100-125 protesters from various groups, most particularly ACT. Participating in 'protesting' at the Bush Rally in Cedar Rapids were: Tarah and Lyle Carol Simmons and son, from Fairfield, Leopold Group Bob Shultis, M.D., Cedar Rapids, Cedar-Prairie Group 6-7 from IPIRG We held signs using compliance reviewed messages on clean energy, blue/greens for energy, etc. The local ABC and NBC affiliates did filming of the protest area...I do not know if we showed up on the news broadcasts. One print photographer was present, but not sure he captured our group. A mention had been made in a day-before story that Sierra Club would be among the protest groups near the event. We were not allowed near the actual Presidential motorcade route, of course. Very brief summary, of course, perhaps Tarah has more.
