Subject: FW: press release for comm elections

Dear Friends - I'm sending this to folks who would have good connections in both the ag and environment communities and who might know of someone who would make a great Polk County soil and water conservation district commissioner. This is very important work, it's an easy nomination process, and the elections are non-partisan. There are three spots open in Polk County: Crocker Township, Clay Township, and Franklin Township.

The terms that are up are of Maurice Moeckly, Polk City (Crocker); Vernon Rettig, Bondurant (Franklin); and Ineabelle Hein, Altoona (Clay). We know for sure that neither Vernon or Ineablle is running for re-election. Successors will be elected at the general election on November 2.

Nomination petitions are available in the county election office. The petitions, signed by 25 eligible electors, must be filed at the Polk County Election Office, 120 - 2nd Avenue, in Des Moines no later than 5 p.m. on August 25.

These are four year terms. Soil and water conservation district commissioners serve without salary and guide the overall soil and water conservation program of the county. This is a excellent opportunity to learn a lot and make a significant difference. For more informaiton, contact the Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District office, 1513 N. Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny, phone 964-1883, ext. 3.

Thank you for taking a look at this and perhaps running yourself -- or helping recruit good candidates. Thanks again.

Sincerely, Linda
