If you would like to apply for membership on RIC, please complete the application below by May 10, 2005. RIC's mission is to assist volunteers, build networks and help coordinate the Club's conservation efforts on recreation issues. Recreation issues include but are not limited to: motorized recreation (ORVs, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, jet-skis, etc), user conflicts, noise impacts, park overflights, bicycles, trails, appropriate and accessible recreation, visitor impacts and resource protection needs related to recreation, recreation fees, commercialization and privatization of recreation on public lands. RIC's webpage and the Club's recreation-related policies can be found at this link: http://www.sierraclub.org/recreationissues/<http://www.sierraclub.org/recreationissues/> Desired qualifications of RIC members include activism and knowledge on recreation issues, as well as a broad perspective on other related issues, such as impacts on public lands and waters, including National Parks, Wilderness, and Wild Rivers. Continuing members of RIC are: Jamie Juenemann (Chair, Minnesota), Karl Forsgaard (Vice Chair, Washington), Phil Knight (Montana), Tom Martin (Arizona), Brian Scherf (Florida), Dan Schroeder (Utah) and David Underwood (Budget Manager, California). Members with terms expiring this summer are Alan Aronson (California) and Dick Hingson (Secretary, Arizona); we are grateful for their 6 years of service on the Committee. Staff liaison is Keren Murphy (Washington DC). Outings liaison is Vicky Hoover (San Francisco). RIC also has 12 corresponding members and Advisors. Candidates for RIC should have general knowledge of recreation issues. Candidates should have good management and social skills, as well as political and strategic judgment. Ability and willingness to use electronic mail and to participate in conference calls (generally in the evening) are required as well as the ability to travel occasionally to meetings or conferences. Candidates need to consider their ability to contribute time and effort to RIC participation in addition to ongoing commitments.
