The topic for this program was Who Reins in the Rain Forests? It was a panel discussion with Dr. May Ducey, a teacher at Mt. Mercy College, William Mulcahey, Campus Ministry at Mt. Mercy, Dolores Reisinger, a blind civil rights activist from the Cedar Rapids area and me. The discussion centered on the murder of Dorothy Stang, a 74 year old nun who was killed last February while working in Brazil to protect the rain forests from logging. It is believed she was killed by hit men hired by a logging company. I did get a chance to talk a bit about commercial logging in general and also the practices followed by our US Forest Service in our national forests. The program runs 30 minutes with no commercials. KCRG is the last TV station in Iowa that is still locally owned. This program airs every Sunday as a public service and is sponsored by the Inter-Religious Council of Linn County. The Producer is Miriam Amer.
