Energy bill takes us backward
The Register's June 19 editorial ("Congress Trots Out Tax Favors as Energy
Policy") exposed the backward thinking guiding this year's proposed energy bill.
Despite existing technology that could eliminate our dependence on foreign oil
while saving consumers money and creating jobs, this energy bill would keep
America on the wrong path toward an unstable, expensive and environmentally
destructive energy future.
We have the solutions today to move forward
with a smarter, cheaper and safer energy policy. Energy efficiency,
fuel-efficient cars, real investments in wind and solar power and polluter
accountability are all pieces of the energy policy America needs. Instead of
proceeding with its current energy bill, Congress should focus on these real
solutions that would protect the environment, create new jobs, lower consumer
energy bills and cut America's dangerous dependence on oil.
