If you would like to nominate yourself for membership on MAC, please complete the application by September 30, 2005. The application is on-line and can be located at: http://clubhouse.sierraclub.org/outings/medical/application.asp<http://clubhouse.sierraclub.org/outings/medical/application.asp> (if login is required, use "clubhouse" for user and "explore" for password) The Sierra Club's MAC is a national committee, charged with being a resource for the medical issues that arise within the Sierra Club's four Outings programs: Clair Tappaan Lodge Outings, Group and Chapter Outings (local), Inner City Outings, and National Outings. Additionally, MAC may work with members of two other cross-program supporting committees: the Mountaineering Oversight Committee (MOC) and the Outdoor Activities Training Committee (OATC). The MAC reports to the Outdoor Activities Governance Committee (OAGC), which reports to the Sierra Club Board of Directors. MAC is a resource for Outings leaders. Its position within the Sierra Club is to provide a comprehensive and growing resource for our Outings leaders by communications through each outdoor activities program. Along the way, it accomplishes this task in close coordination with Sierra Club's Outings volunteers and staff. Specifically, it's job is to maintain a current understanding of the medical needs of the Outings programs and to foster a strong communication with those programs so it can provide assistance in meeting those needs. This includes: - Oversee the prescription medication policy for each Outings program - Develop and adopt medical protocols, which provide guidance for Outings leaders in first aid situations - Provide suggestions for first aid kit contents - Identify opportunities for leader first aid training - Develop and adopt evacuation guidelines - Stay current in the field of wilderness emergency medicine and making those developments readily available to Outings programs - Provide other assistance in the medical field so that our Outings leaders become the best-informed wilderness leaders Additional information is provided on the above web page and application.
