Subject: National Parks Committee Vacancies Recruitment Announcement - National Parks Committee The Wild Planet Strategy Team (WPST) seeks to appoint a chair and up to eight other members for the Sierra Club's National Parks Committee (NPC). If you would like to nominate yourself for membership on the NPC, please complete and return the application below by September 15th, 2005. The Committee will focus on the conservation, management, and long term sustainable issues surrounding existing National Parks and Monuments, including identifying threats and proposing solutions. This may include close monitoring of the national parks Interior appropriations and budget process. The Committee will serve as a resource to Chapters and Groups in the work to protect National Parks in their areas. The National Parks Committee will coordinate with the ongoing work of other Club committees such as Wildlands Campaign, Recreation Issues Committee, Wildlife and Endangered Species Committee, Alaska Task Force and Energy Committee. Staff liaisons will be Maribeth Oakes (Washington DC) and Vicky Hoover (San Francisco). Candidates for the National Parks Committee should have at least general knowledge of National Park issues and the motivation to work on resolving them. Specialized expertise is welcome as is familiarity with Sierra Club policies and processes at the national level. Candidates should have good management and social skills, as well as political and strategic judgment. Nominees must be current Sierra Club members residing in the United States. Sierra Club of Canada members are not eligible to apply. Ability and willingness to use electronic mail and to participate in conference calls (generally in the evening) are required as well as the ability to travel occasionally to meetings or conferences.
