Interesting information about the slump in SUV sales.

Regarding "Peak Oil--" the end of ever-increasing global production of oil,
followed by permanent decline--I distributed information about this to the
Chapter ExCom at their August meeting, just before Katrina hit New Orleans. I hope
this made an impression.

The Chapter ExCom is doing splendid work on water quality, but other issues,
like a moratorium on highway building; urban sprawl that is destroying Iowa's
precious land as if there is no tomorrow; and sustainable transportation need
to be worked on too. We have a staff person now. We did not before 2001. The
Chapter should now be capable of multi-tasking.

Friends and colleagues,

We've waited a long time, but between Peak Oil/price destabilization and
climate destablization/Hurricanes Katrina and Rita the American consumer is
finally becoming aware of a reality that we've been trying to make apparent for
quite a while. Below are most of AOL's "Daily Pulse" for yesterday.

Quiz: Which vehicle manufacturer is REALLY in trouble? (Let's hope that (1)
we don't have to pay for a Chrysler-style (for those that remember Lee
Iacoca) bailout, and (2) "As goes GM, so goes the nation" is no longer the case.)

cheers

P.S. Apologies to SUV owners and to those getting multiple copies.

Is America's love affair with the big SUV hitting the brakes? Recent sales
show the gas guzzlers are becoming a casualty of rising fuel prices. Take a look
at what some of you posted about SUVs in the <A HREF="http://journals.aol.com/dailypulseblog/citizenjournalism/">Daily Pulse blog</A>, then weigh in.
