The Conservation Governance
Committee (CGC) is soliciting applications immediately for one position on the
committee (see application below). If you know of someone else who is

It is expected that an appointment to the twelve-person CGC

call.
Desirable qualifications of potential appointees include (but are
not
limited to): broad experience across a diversity of conservation issues;
understanding of the Club's conservation infrastructure; ability to communicate
and interact effectively with volunteer leaders; and time to commit to the CGC,
including attendance at up to three face-to-face meetings per year,
participation in at least monthly conference calls, and time between meetings to
conduct CGC business.
Sierra Club of Canada (SCC) members are not
eligible to apply to this announcement. Please contact [log in to unmask]
<mailto:[log in to unmask]> for information on the criteria required for SCC
members to be appointed as liaisons or members to the CGC and its
subentities.
The CGC is one of six governance committees formed during
the Club's restructuring in 1994. The CGC implements, oversees, and coordinates
the Sierra Club's conservation work with primary focus at the national
level. It makes recommendations to the Board of Directors about the Club's
conservation policies and priorities, and attempts to resolve controversies
about the interpretation of conservation policies and conflicts between national
and local
policies. CGC works with the Club's other governance
committees and Council of Club Leaders. It oversees fifteen conservation
entities directly, and it indirectly oversees all of their subentities.
The
current members of the CGC include the following:
Bernie Zaleha (CGC Chair),
Judy Kunofsky (CGC Vice Chair), Jim Catlin (Board Appt), Doris Cellarius, Jim
Dougherty (Board Appt), Michael Gregory, Doug La Follette (Board Appt), Jan
O'Connell (Board Appt), David Scott, Jerry Sutherland, Rene Voss
(Budget
Manager), and Bruce Hamilton (Conservation Director of the Sierra
Club).
The CGC oversees entities that coordinate work in three broad
types, consisting of conservation issues, the Club's political program, and the
regional conservation structures.
Thank you for your
interest.
