Dear Friends,

We’d like to invite each of you to attend our annual meeting, to be held Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church, 310 N. Johnson St., Iowa City.  Registration begins at 8:30 AM; the meeting will be from 9:00 AM -4:00 PM.

This is a great place to learn more about responsible land use and how to improve Iowa’s communities for the future, meet other folks concerned about smart growth and land use in Iowa, and eat great locally-sourced food!  

The keynote address will be given by Craig Malin, City Administrator for Davenport, Iowa.  Mr. Malin is a member of the Congress for the New Urbanism. He was instrumental in facilitating the visioning and community input process that led to the creation of Prairie Heights, a neo-traditional development in a growing area of the city that will include more than 1,100 new residences over 630 acres, 220 acres of which are owned by the city. The mixed-use plan includes some retail area on the 53rd Street side, a 126-acre public park, and environmental/green-space corridors throughout. Mr. Malin will discuss his experiences living in and working to promote neo-traditional development in several Midwestern communities.

We will also feature a panel discussion with elected officials concerned about smart growth, including Regenia Bailey (Iowa City), Kamyar Enshayan (Cedar Falls), Brian Fagan (Cedar Rapids), David Franker (North Liberty), Tom Podzimek (Cedar Rapids), Jim Popken (Ames), and Rod Sullivan (Johnson County). 

Other highlights will include the 2006 Best Development Awards, a locally-sourced lunch catered by the Motley Cow Café, our business meeting, workshop sessions on various land use issues, and a tour of the Peninsula Neighborhood Development project, winner of a 2005 Best Development Awards for New Residential.
