I am somewhat suspicious of the phrase "Best Available Technology."  The question is, according to who?  The accounting best practices were developed by accountants.  With Enron, etc.,these standards are being shown to be poor, but are being used as a defense.  These standards that allowed terrible things.  Similar, education defends themselves with best practices that they developed.  Educators have yet to hear the dissatisfied roar of society as to these standards.

The question seems to be, will these be built using every available technlology?

I am going to try and attend this meeting.

I think we should ask how much Mercury the plant will
emit and is this Best Available Technology?

Why should Waterloo residents suffer the health
effects of air pollution to provide power to Milwaukee
and Chicago.

Why isn't this plant an Integrated Coal Gasification
Plant?

Where are the transmission lines going and who is
paying for them?

A Public Listening Session

What questions should we be asking regarding the
Proposed Power Plant in Black Hawk County?

Wednesday April 5, 2006
7 - 8:45 PM

Cedar Falls Public Library
524 Main Street

A 750 Megawatt coal-burning power plant is being
considered
for construction and operation in Black Hawk County.

Because such a large power plant has a potential to
have
adverse effects on Northeast Iowa's air and water,
it would be
prudent for residents to be clear about what might
be at stake.
This listening session is intended for citizens to
develop a list
of questions people are interested in finding
answers to. We
can then begin a process of searching for answers to
those
questions.

Please consider attending, listening to others'
questions, and
sharing yours. All are welcome.
