We may soon have a chance to help lower
gas prices, decrease our dependence on oil and fight global
warming by raising fuel economy standards.
Representatives Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) and
Edward Markey (D-MA) will be proposing an amendment that would
require an increase in the fuel economy of both cars and light
trucks to 33 miles per gallon by 2016.
Click here to urge your member of
Congress to vote for the Boehlert-Markey fuel economy
amendment.
The Boehlert-Markey amendment would save an
estimated $19 billion in fuel costs and give the average
family an additional $495 savings at the pump every year,
while taking a significant bite out of global warming
pollution and our national dependence on oil.
We need to reduce our reliance on oil to
ensure both the health and the safety of future
generations. New technology exists today that would
make our cars and trucks go much farther on a gallon of gas, a
simple solution that would help reduce our dependence on oil.
The average car on the road today gets less than 21
mpg--that's less than the Model T got!
Click here now to send an email to your
Representative urging him or her to vote for the
Markey-Boehlert fuel economy amendment.
This is the biggest single step we can take to
help save money at the gas pump, curb global warming, and cut
America’s oil dependence.
