SIERRA CLUB POLITICAL COMMITTEE: REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS

The Sierra Club's Conservation Governance Committee (CGC) is seeking to fill
three vacancies on the Sierra Club's Political Committee (SCPC). We are
especially interested in candidates with experience, expertise, and/or a
strong interest in the following areas:

* The electoral process, especially within the Sierra Club electoral
program.

* Broadening support within the Sierra Club for the electoral program.

* Integrating electoral plans into conservation issues.

* Training, mobilizing and communicating with chapter & group volunteers.

Service on the SCPC requires a genuine commitment of time and energy. There
will be a minimum two-year commitment with a desire for on-going service on
the committee beyond those two years. For a better idea of the work we do,
please review the description of the SCPC and the list of qualifications for
appointment that precede the application form below. Nominees must be
current Sierra Club members.

Selection of a new committee member will be based on several criteria,
including experience in both electoral politics and the Sierra Club,
enthusiasm for the electoral process, demographics, political philosophy;
ability to communicate well orally and electronically, capacity to work with
other volunteers and provide guidance and training, and the ability to work
within the SC structure to promote the political program.

Appointments to the Committee are made by the CGC, in cooperation with the
SCPC, based on applications and interviews with prospective candidates.
Interviewers will represent both the CGC and the SCPC; finalists will be
invited to a SCPC meeting in early 2007. If you are interested in applying
please read and follow the instructions completely. We are encouraging
self-applications, however recommendations for suitable candidates will also
be considered. We also encourage individuals to pass this announcement on
to others who you think may have an interest in serving on the SCPC.

Sierra Club of Canada (SCC) members are not eligible to apply to this
announcement.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT

The ability and willingness to use electronic mail and to participate in

three to four times a year and additional regional travel may be required.
(The travel and lodging expenses of these trips are paid by the SC.)

In evaluating applications, the CGC strives to achieve diversity in
geography, ethnicity, gender, and political philosophy. Also, the CGC and
