For those of you in Central Iowa, I am forwarding this information about the Central Iowa Sierra Club's program on the Fort Des Moines County Park and zoo expansion issue. Central Iowa Sierra Club WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21: Monthly Public Program- Fort Des Moines Park Mel Pins, president of Somerset Neighborhood Association will present a program on Fort Des Moines Park and the proposed expansion of Blank Park Zoo into the county park. Mel Pins is a local neighborhood leader in Des Moines; for the last 4 years he has been the President of the Somerset Neighborhood Association, one of the more than 45 neighborhoods chartered by the City of Des Moines. The neighborhood has recently been concerned that the neighboring Fort Des Moines County Park, a 112-acre park of forest, lake, and prairie restoration, may be considered for redevelopment and incorporation into an expansion of the Blank Park Zoo.
