Central Iowa Sierra Club's program on the Fort Des Moines County Park and
zoo expansion issue.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21:
Monthly Public Program- Fort Des Moines Park

Mel Pins, president of Somerset Neighborhood Association will present a
program on Fort Des Moines Park and the proposed expansion of Blank Park Zoo
into the county park. Our public programs are 7:30-9:00 p.m. at Grace United
Methodist Church, 37th & Cottage Grove.  Refreshments follow the program.

Mel Pins is a local neighborhood leader in Des Moines; for the last 4
years he has been the President of the Somerset Neighborhood
Association, one of the more than 45 neighborhoods chartered by the City
of Des Moines.

The neighborhood has recently been concerned that the neighboring Fort
Des Moines County Park, a 112-acre park of forest, lake, and prairie
restoration, may be considered for redevelopment and incorporation into
an expansion of the Blank Park Zoo.  Mel will provide a summary of this
issue and his neighborhood's concerns and action.
