Governor Vilsack to Speak at Iowa
Ecological Footprint Conference
In addition to Iowa
environmental experts, Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie and an internationally
renowned keynote,
Governor Tom Vilsack will speak at an ecological
conference in Des Moines, at the Botanical Center, September 29, at 11:30
a.m.
Learn how to reduce your ecological footprint at the 2006
Annual Conference of the Iowa Environmental Council. From 8:00 a.m. to
4:30 p.m., September 29, join Iowa experts at the Des Moines Botanical Center,
as they discuss green housing initiatives, Cradle to Cradle consumer products,
sustainable food systems and much more. Keynote speaker will be Dr. William
Rees, author of “Our Ecological Footprint,” Visit the exhibits and participate
in the silent auction. There's a $45 fee for members, $70 for non-members and

An ecological footprint is a measure of the “load” imposed on nature by
an individual or a given population, or the area of land needed to provide the
necessary resources and absorb the wastes generated by a community.
The
Iowa Environmental Council is a statewide, non-profit organization, that works
in public policy to protect Iowa’s natural resourcesair, water, and
soil.
