Call for nominations: Sierra Club Honors and Awards Committee

The Honors and Awards Committee is seeking one or two members to join the
committee. This committee falls under the jurisdiction of the Club’s
Organizational Effectiveness (OE) Governance Committee, and recommends
recipients for the Club’s national awards to the OE Committee and the Board
of Directors. A job description for committee members appears below.

If you are interested in serving on this committee, or know someone who
might be good for this committee, please send a brief e-mail with the
following information to [log in to unmask] before Nov. 1, 2006:

1. Name, address, phone(s), e-mail address and best time to reach you or
the person you are recommending.

2. Experience that you or the person you are recommending has with the
Sierra Club, particularly in the area of volunteer recognition.

Term of service are flexible, but a minimum of two years is expected. New
members are needed to ensure that all areas of the country are represented
on the committee.

Sierra Club Honors and Awards Committee
Committee Member Duties:

•     Help promote the national awards program and solicit nominations for
awards.
•     Review all award nominations online prior to annual committee
meeting.
•     Attend annual committee meeting the first or second weekend in June.
•     Follow-up with award winners to see if they can attend the awards
dinner.
•     Attend annual awards dinner in September and help host award winners.
•     Work with Sierra Club groups and chapters to promote award programs
at the local level.
•     Participate in conference calls throughout the year as necessary.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

•     Knowledge of Sierra Club volunteers in a particular region of the
country.
•     Knowledge of at least one major area of Sierra Club focus – i.e.
outings or conservation.
•     Good written and oral communication skills.
•     Comfortable with e-mail, web-based forms and conference calls.
