SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR NEW MEMBER OF THE CONSERVATION GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE Deadline for applications: December 4, 2006 The Conservation Governance Committee (CGC) is soliciting applications immediately for one position on the Conservation Governance Committee (CGC). See application below. If you are interested in applying or if you know of someone who is well qualified, please feel free to forward this application and encourage them to apply. It is expected that an appointment to the twelve-person CGC will be made by the Board of Directors on its December or January conference call. Desirable qualifications of potential appointees include (but are not limited to): broad experience across a diversity of conservation issues; experience with and leadership of large conservation campaigns; understanding of the Club's conservation infrastructure; ability to communicate and interact effectively with volunteer leaders at national and local levels; and the time to commit to the CGC, including attendance at up to three face-to-face meetings per year, participation in at least monthly conference calls, and time between meetings to conduct CGC assignments and related business. A Search Team composed of Jan O?Connell (Chair), Donald Parks (CGC member), Joni Bosh (Board of Directors representative) will review applications, contact references, conduct interviews, and recommend an appointee to the Board of Directors. The CGC oversees entities that coordinate work in three broad areas, consisting of conservation issues, the Club's political program, and the regional conservation structures. The CGC is one of six governance committees formed during the Club's restructuring in 1994. The CGC implements, oversees, and coordinates the Sierra Club's conservation work with primary focus at the national level. It makes recommendations to the Board of Directors about the Club's conservation policies and priorities, and attempts to resolve controversies about the interpretation of conservation policies and conflicts between national and local policies. CGC works with the Club's other governance committees and Council of Club Leaders. It oversees fifteen conservation entities directly, and it indirectly oversees all of their subentities.
