Request for Applications - Water Sentinels Advisory Committee
Applications are due by December 22, 2006.
The Safe Healthy Communities Conservation Initiative Committee is currently
seeking three new members for the Sierra Club's Water Sentinels Advisory
Committee, a committee which oversees the Water Sentinels Program.
The Water Sentinels Program makes water pollution concerns personal, helps
activists understand them in a broader context, and gives them the tools
they
need to clean up the problems they uncover. Water Sentinels work in a
number of
regions, conducting water quality sampling along rivers, streams, lakes,
beaches, bays and wetlands. They conduct stream litter cleanups,
youth-EJ-hunter/angler-labor outreach, and storm drain stenciling. They
also
cosponsor rain garden projects, campus recycling, and household hazardous
waste
collection events. For more information, see
http://www.sierraclub.org/watersentinels/
The Water Sentinels Advisory Committee is charged with reviewing quarterly
reports generated for all its projects and annually reviews all
applications for
continued sites (some dating to 2001), and any new site applications as
funding
opportunities arise. The Committee decides which sites will receive
continued/new funding, and then approves these allocations in a final
annual
program operating budget.
Applicants should have a strong background and expertise in water quality
protection, youth outreach, and hunter-angler outreach.
Committee member responsibilities include participating in several
conference
calls a year to help annual program planning and budget development, as
well as
site selection and oversight.
Current volunteer members of the Water Sentinels Advisory Committee are
Albert
Ettinger (IL), Doris Cellarius (AZ), and Hank Graddy (KY). Staff members
include Water Sentinels Program Director Scott Dye, (MO); Ed Hopkins, (DC);
Greg
Haegele, (CA); and Paula Carrell, (CA).
A Search Team composed of Robin Mann (Chair), Hank Graddy, and Doris
Cellarius
will review applications, contact references, conduct interviews, and make
recommendations to the Safe Healthy Communities Conservation Initiative
Committee, which makes the appointments. New members will be appointed to
a
two-year term, and appointees may be reappointed twice more for a total of
up to
six consecutive years on the committee.
Sierra Club of Canada (SCC) members are not eligible to apply to this
announcement. Please contact [log in to unmask] for information on the
criteria
required for SCC members to be appointed as liaisons or members to CGC and
its
subentities. The Sierra Club of Canada web site is

If you would like to serve on this committee, please complete the
application
below and send it to Robin Mann by email.
