Request for Applications - Environmental Quality Strategy Team (EQST) The deadline for applications is January 15, 2007. The Conservation Governance Committee (CGC) seeks to appoint new members to the Environmental Quality Strategy Team, one of five Strategy Teams appointed by and reporting to the CGC. To protect and improve environmental quality, the EQST addresses issues such as pollution prevention and clean-up; production, use and disposal of hazardous and toxic materials; and protection of aquatic resources. It oversees the work of nine entities, which carry out this work: Air Committee, Corporate Accountability Committee, Environmental Justice Committee, Toxics Committee, Radiation Committee, Water Committee, Livable Communities Committee, Zero Waste Committee, Gulf Coast Environmental Restoration Task Force. The EQST and its committees assist the Sierra Club at all levels on these issues. They help to shape national policies and positions, recruit and apply necessary expertise, and assist grassroots activists. Current members are Chair Roger Diedrich, Elaine Giessel, Ann Harris, Charles Winterwood, Bob Hastings, John Hedrick and Ken Midkiff. EQST members review the work of its committees; appoint their members; approve their budgets; assist them in developing priorities and strategies for addressing their issues; coordinate the work of the committees and other work on related issues; and create additional committees as needed. The work involves 1 to 2 conference calls a month, and several hours a week of reading e-mail messages. Applicants must be current Sierra Club members. Sierra Club of Canada (SCC) members are not eligible to apply to this announcement.
