Request for Applications - Environmental Quality
Strategy Team (EQST)
The deadline for applications is January 15,
2007.
The Conservation Governance Committee (CGC) seeks to appoint
new members to
the Environmental Quality Strategy Team, one of five Strategy
Teams
appointed by and reporting to the CGC.
To protect and
improve environmental quality, the EQST addresses issues
such as pollution
prevention and clean-up; production, use and disposal of
hazardous and toxic
materials; and protection of aquatic resources. It
oversees the work of nine
entities, which carry out this work: Air
Committee,
Corporate Accountability Committee, Environmental Justice
Committee, Toxics
Committee, Radiation Committee, Water Committee, Livable
Communities
Committee, Zero Waste Committee, Gulf Coast Environmental
Restoration Task
Force.
The EQST and its committees assist the Sierra Club at all
levels on these
issues. They help to shape national policies and positions,
recruit and
apply necessary expertise, and assist grassroots activists.
Current members
are Chair Roger Diedrich, Elaine Giessel, Ann Harris, Charles
Winterwood,
Bob Hastings, John Hedrick and Ken Midkiff.
For
information on some of the EQST's current activities, go to
the
website:
http://www.clubhouse.sierraclub.org/go/leaders/conservation/eqst/index.aspEQST
and its committees are a "family" of leaders who do interesting and
very
important work for the Sierra Club and the environment. EQST
members
review the work of its committees; appoint their members; approve
their
budgets; assist them in developing priorities and strategies for
addressing
their issues; coordinate the work of the committees and other work
on
related issues; and create additional committees as needed. The
work
involves 1 to 2 conference calls a month, and several hours a week
of
reading e-mail messages.
Applicants must be current Sierra Club
members. Sierra Club of Canada (SCC)
members are not eligible to apply to
this announcement. Please contact
[log in to unmask] and/or refer to the
operating agreement between Sierra
Club and Sierra Club of Canada at
