Recruitment Announcement - Marine Wildlife and Habitat Committee

The Wild Planet Strategy Team (WPST) seeks to appoint up to four additional
members to the Sierra Club's Marine Wildlife and Habitat Committee (Marine
Committee). If you would like to nominate yourself for appointment please
complete and return the application below by March 19, 2007, to the Chair of
the Search Committee.

The Marine Committee focuses on issues relating to marine (saltwater)
wildlife and habitat in addition to the Great Lakes. Issues include but are
not limited to fisheries, marine mammals, coastal zoning and development,
OCS, LNG siting issues, coral reefs, endangered species, cruise ship issues,
marine protected areas, pollution.

This Committee will serve as a resource to chapters and groups in the work
to protect marine coastal areas. The Committee will coordinate with the
ongoing work of other Sierra Club committees such as Wildlife and Endangered
Species, International Committee, Global Warming and Energy.

Candidates for the Marine Committee should have at least general knowledge
of one, or more, marine issues. Specialized expertise is welcome as is
familiarity with Sierra Club policies and processes at the national level.
Candidates should have good management and social skills, as well as
political and strategic judgment. Nominees must be current Sierra Club
members residing in the United States.

(Sierra Club of Canada (SCC) members are not eligible to apply to this
announcement. Please contact [log in to unmask] for information on the
criteria required for SCC members to be appointed as liaisons or members to
CGC and its sub-entities.)

Nominees for the Marine Committee should also have the ability and
willingness to use electronic mail and to participate in monthly conference
calls (generally in the evening). Travel is not particularly required except
for one annual meeting of the Committee (face to face) although the ability
to travel occasionally to related meetings or conferences is useful.
Candidates need to consider their ability to contribute time and effort to
Committee participation in addition to other ongoing commitments. If you are
interested in applying, please read and follow the instructions completely.
We are only accepting self-nominations. Please pass this announcement on to
others that you think may have an interest.

Appointments to the Marine Committee will be made by the WPST, based on
applications and phone interviews with prospective candidates. The WPST
deals with public and private land and water management issues, including
existing special designations such as national parks, wilderness, wild
rivers, and wildlife and endangered species issues. More information about
