I would volunteer for such a committee.. I am a retired architect and
University Prof.. Ph.D was in architecture focused on building energy use
modeling.. from Texas A&M.. I have design many passive solar homes .. The
energy push that I see in Iowa is a head long push for production... without
addressing the demand side of the equation.. in autos or buildings... I lived in
OK for 20 yrs and saw what the oil production mentality could do... Iowan greed
is not very different.. There needs to be more synergism in the location of
ethanol plants and Hog confinement facilities ..The legislature should look at
the California model of adopting energy efficiency standards that mean
something.. Ken

Subject: Sierra Club energy
committee
The Iowa Chapter of Sierra Club is forming a committee of Chapter members
who are interested in energy issues. We want to propose and work to adopt
policies that will ensure environmentally sound responses to the issues of
energy production, use, and conservation. These proposals will be presented to
state and national legislators, and administrative decision makers. There is
no question that everyone now sees the importance of planning our energy
future. The Sierra Club must take the lead in making sure this future is one
that protects the environment.
If you would like to be a member of this important committee please
contact me.
