Lyle,

Here is the response from Sen. Warnstadt

Jim,

Thanks for the message. I believe we will have a motion to reconsider
on the amendment, which I will probably support. That said, I'm not
sure I will support the bill, as I'm not confident of the DNR's ability
to "manage" the cougar population any better than they "manage" the deer
herd.

Steve Warnstadt

Subject: ALERT: cougars/bears bill, SF 247

Sierrans:

The cougars/bears bill, SF 247, was brought up in the Senate last
evening,
and a bad amendment was adopted, so the bill was deferred and a motion
to
reconsider filed on the amendment. I need you to call the following
Senators, who voted against us and for the amendment, and ask them to
reconsider their vote to remove the amendment and pass the bill. I need
those calls between now and tomorrow morning.

Call them at the Senate switchboard 515-281-3371. Call Senators Beall,
Hancock, Kibbie, Kreiman, Olive, Rielly, Schoenjahn, Stewart, Warnstadt,
Woods ( all Democrats) and Sens. Ward and Zaun, Republicans.

Below is the link to the bill itself, and followed by the amendment
language.

Remember, our bill would just place those two animals, cougar and black
bear, on the fur-bearing animal list, which allows the department to
manage
them, even eventually a hunting season if the population of animals grew
that much. A person can always kill an animal threatening their person
or
property.

Senate File 247, A bill for an act making black bears and cougars
fur-bearing animals.
