Iowa Department of Natural Resources Environmental Services Division For Immediate Release March 28, 2007 MASON CITY DIESEL SPILL REACHES WILLOW CREEK MEDIA CONTACT: Al Tompkins or Scott Wilson at (641) 424-4073. MASON CITY -- Crews are cleaning up diesel fuel in Mason City following a spill Wednesday morning. About 25 gallons of diesel fuel spilled when a semi trailer fell off the loading dock at Crescent Park Distributing, puncturing a 50-gallon fuel tank. About 10 to 15 gallons of fuel reached a storm sewer that discharges to Willow Creek. Storm sewers do not receive any type of treatment before discharging to a stream, as they are designed to only carry rain water and snowmelt. A contractor is on-site to contain the spill and is pumping up the fuel that reached Willow Creek. No fuel appears to have reached the Winnebago River. The DNR will continue to investigate. -30- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To unsubscribe from the IOWA-TOPICS list, send any message to: [log in to unmask] Check out our Listserv Lists support site for more information: http://www.sierraclub.org/lists/faq.asp
