Washington, D.C. - Sen. Charles Grassley is trying to use a Democratic

Biofuel proposals get tax breaks

Harvest BioFuels, a Texas-based company that wants to build three ethanol
plants in northern Iowa, has received more than $11 million in property tax
abatements from Kossuth and Hancock counties because, its chief executive
officer says, the tax breaks are needed to attract investors.

State tax credits of more than $24 million also were approved last month for
the proposed ethanol plants in Kossuth and Hancock counties by the Iowa
Department of Economic Development board through its High Quality Jobs
Creation program.
