This opportunity has come to my attention for a summer position with the Sierra Student Coalition (SSC).

Jane Clark

Essentially the SSC will be organizing a march from Ames to Des Moines
August 3rd-5th to elevate climate change as a priority for Iowa and the
upcoming presidential elections. SSC is hoping to get at least 1000 people
to the rally at the end of the march. For a more detailed description,
check out the description below or at www.climatesummer.org.

In order to do this, SSC is going to have 7 stipended student fellows
organizing all summer to do community outreach and education. The
application deadline is Wednesday, March 28th.

Apply to be a part of Climate Summer 2007!

Still trying to figure out what to do with your summer? Looking for an
experience that will improve your organizing skills, allow you to live with
amazing friends in Des Moines, and be involved in elevating the issue of
global warming and a clean and just energy transition to the forefront of
the national conscience?

The Sierra Student Coalition will be organizing in Iowa and traveling around
the state making presentations on global warming to community groups and
identifying local volunteers to help us, as well as building a coalition
with labor groups, churches, etc. This will culminate in a three-day march
to demand federal action, ending in a rally at the state capital. SSC will
be working to bring the presidential candidates there and to get national
media attention. The march will occur simultaneously with marches in New
Hampshire and South Carolina (other early primary states).

Right now SSC is looking for students (or recent graduates) interested in
spending ten weeks this summer doing that. SSC will cover living expenses
and provide a stipend for selected students, and they'll be living and
working with other young climate activists.

Students interested in working on this should download an application at
www.climatesummer.org . The deadline has been extended to this coming
Monday, but they should get them in as soon as possible.

Students who are interested in developing their organizing skills are also
encouraged to attend SPROG, our week-long summer training program. It is
led by top students who will be teaching how to build and lead effective
groups to make environmental change. You can learn more and register at
www.ssc.org/sprog.
