<[log in to unmask]>Rep. Beth Wessel-Kroeschell has introduced amendment H-2050 to
Senate File 601, that would establish a state study on how to increase the
beverage container redemption rate.  This study may help draw consensus
among legislators and provide important research to move forward next year
so more cans and bottles will be redeemed.

Also, Rep. Roger Thomas has introduced amendment H-2060, also to Senate File
601 that
would increase the handling fee for approved redemption centers to 1
1/2-cents. The redemption centers are the businesses that sort the cans by
brands for grocers and convenience stores and people who drop off
containers. The distributors pay the redemption centers one cent per
container for sorting them. The redemption centers have not had an increase
since 1979. Many have closed.

Senate File 601 may be debated Friday, Saturday or even next Monday in the
House.
