Richardson outlines energy plan The governor wants fewer oil imports and more ethanol and biodiesel. By WILLIAM PETROSKI REGISTER STAFF WRITER New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, one of the Democrats seeking the presidency, unveiled a national energy plan Thursday that places a high priority on ethanol and other biofuels produced in Iowa. "I would say that on a scale of 10, the use and promotion of biofuels and biodiesel and ethanol would be at about a 9.5 level," Richardson said in a conference call with Iowa reporters. http://dmregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070518/NEWS09/705180382/-1/archive ---------- LTE Tax the stinkers I read with interest David Elbert's May 6 column, "Assessors (All 99) Wrestle Farm Tax Ruling," and must confess I was not aware of the debate of taxable value of livestock confinements possibly being shifted to farmland. As a landowner in Jasper County across from a hog confinement, we have already seen our property value drop because of the odor - not to mention that we were unable to build a new home on our property due to the odor. Let those who lower our property value, at the very least, pay extra tax on their hog-confinement property. - Marlene Hutt, Iowa City. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To unsubscribe from the IOWA-TOPICS list, send any message to: [log in to unmask] Check out our Listserv Lists support site for more information: http://www.sierraclub.org/lists/faq.asp
