HELP PEOPLE MAKE A SUSTAINABLE CHOICE AT THE GROCERY STORE
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO RAISE AWARENESS

Women's International League for Peace & Freedom, Sierra Club, Iowa Environmental Council, and Iowa Global Warming are collaborating to raise awareness in Des Moines about the issue of plastic petroleum-based, non-degradable bags dispensed mindlessly at retailers and grocers around the city.  These bags find their way into fields, trees, and in alarming numbers into landfills.

Dahl's Supermarkets sells multi-use, non-disposable cloth bags which customers can keep in their cars and bring to the check out counters to be used instead of "paper or plastic", creating a 're-use' mentality and raising awareness of the problems of disposable bags. 

The stores that 'collect' used bags give the impression they are recycling them, but instead they just bale them and send them to the landfill........ instead of having us put them in our own trash.

On Saturday, June 30th, Dahl's will permit our volunteers to staff tables outside ALL TWELVE of their stores in the Des Moines area from 10am till 4pm... to sell their bags, but also to raise awareness of the importance of re-using and re-cycling.  The purpose is educational, not to make money.  We want people to THINK about the option they have to choose more sustainable carryalls for their groceries.
