Recruitment Announcement - Great Lakes (Bi-national) Committee (U.S. side) The U.S. - Canada International Committee a direct report to the Conservation Governance Committee (CGC) seeks to appoint five additional members from the U.S. Sierra Club for the new Great Lakes (Bi-National) Committee (GLC). If you would like to nominate yourself for appointment please complete and return the application below by June 15th. The GLC will work to protect and restore the ecosystem of the Great Lakes Basin by promoting effective collaboration between the chapters and national offices of the Sierra Club and Sierra Club of Canada on Great Lakes Basin issues. The committee will serve as a meeting place for regular updates and coordination on legislation, projects, activities and events that affect the Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem. It will initiate binational activities and projects to enhance the visibility, competence and influence of Sierra Club and Sierra Club of Canada in promoting the quality of the Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem. It will serve as a resource to chapters and volunteers working to protect the Great Lakes and will manage a binational Great Lakes list-serve. Over the next two to three years, the committee will focus on issues such as implementation of the Great Lakes Annex/Compact to prevent diversions of Great Lakes water, review of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, and implementation of a Great Lakes restoration agenda. Candidates for the Great Lakes (Bi-National) Committee should have at least general knowledge of current Great Lakes issues and the motivation to work on resolving them. Specialized expertise is welcome as is familiarity with Sierra Club policies and processes. Candidates should have good management and social skills, as well as political and strategic judgment. Nominees must be current Sierra Club members. Ability and willingness to use electronic mail and to participate in conference calls (generally in the evening) are required as well as the ability to travel occasionally to meetings or conferences. Candidates need to consider their ability to contribute time and effort to GLC participation in addition to ongoing commitments.
