CONSERVATION COMMITTEE.

Deadline for applications: July 6, 2007

The Wild Planet Strategy Team (WPST) seeks to appoint up to three additional
members for the Sierra Club?s National Forest Protection and Restoration
Committee (NFPRC). If you would like to nominate yourself for appointment
please complete and return the application below by July 6, 2007.

This is an extension of the original time period for applications. If you

application has been received. Candidate interviews will be held the second
week of July. Candidates who are appointed to the committee will be asked to

The NFPRC focuses on conservation of forests on all federal lands, including
identifying threats and proposing solutions. The Club?s goal is to end
commercial logging on federal lands and to restore these forests to native
wild lands. The Club also has a wide range of forest protection policies
that can be reviewed on the Club?s website.

This committee serves as a resource to chapters and groups in the work to
protect national forests and BLM, and BIA forests in their areas. The NFRC
coordinates with the ongoing work of other Sierra Club committees such as
Wildlands, Recreation Issues, Wildlife and Endangered Species, Forest
Certification Committee and Global Warming and Energy. Staff liaison is Sean
Cosgrove in Washington, DC.

Candidates for should have at least general knowledge of forest protection
issues and the motivation to work on resolving them. Specialized expertise
is welcome as is familiarity with Sierra Club policies and processes at the
national level. Candidates should have good management and social skills, as
well as political and strategic judgment. Nominees must be current Sierra
Club members residing in the United Staes. Candidates from the NE, SE, and
NW regions are especially encouraged to apply.

Ability and willingness to use electronic mail and to participate in
conference calls (generally in the evening) are required, as well as the
ability to travel occasionally to meetings or conferences. Candidates need
to consider their ability to contribute time and effort to NFPRC
participation in addition to ongoing commitments. If you are interested in
applying, please read and follow the instructions completely. We are only
accepting self-nominations, so, please, pass this announcement on to others
you think may have an interest.

Appointments to the NFPRC will be made by the WPST, based on applications
and phone interviews with prospective candidates. The WPST deals with public
and private land and water management issues, including existing special
designations such as national parks, forests, wilderness, wild rivers, and
wildlife and endangered species issues. More information about WPST and its
committees can be found at
