Sierra Club members, Lt. Gov. Patty Judge is currently holding town hall meetings across Iowa to discuss innovative ideas to improve the wellness and healthy living of Iowans. Although she and Governor Culver may be targeting health professionals, many topics related to Sierra Club directly impact wellness and healthy living - clean water, clean air etc. The Cedar Prairie Group and the Clean Air Waterloo group who are fighting a coal-fired power plant proposed for this area by LS Power would appreciate it if anyone who attends one of the wellness meetings anywhere in the state would voice their opposition to the proposed coal-fired plant for NE Iowa based on the pollutants it will put into the air, etc. On a positive note, you could say that nearly 2 dozen states have already followed California's lead in formulating policies that encourage conservation and alternative energy sources. Florida, with a Republican governor, is the latest as of today (7/13/07). You could also mention that Florida receives approximately 60% of its possible solar energy and Iowa receives 55% -- not so different from Florida. The potential for wind and solar energy in Iowa is high --- not to mention energy efficiency and conservation first.
