REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS - Safe Healthy Communities CIC The Conservation Governance Committee (CGC) has extended the applicationperiod for appointing two additional members to the Safe Healthy CommunitiesConservation Initiative Committee (SHC). If you would like to apply forappointment please complete and return the application below by September15, 2007, to Doris Cellarius <[log in to unmask]> ACTION OBJECTIVES SHC seeks to foster communities that have clean air to breathe, clean waterto drink and use for recreation, and are free of toxic waste. SHC is chargedwith placing emphasis on the Board-designated area of national concern of waterquality protection. In 2007 SHC has identified strategic opportunities anddeveloped action objectives in the following issue areas: * Stopping Sewage Pollution; * Drinking Water Source Protection; * Protecting Water Quality in Rural Communities; * Protecting Wildlife and Humans from Chemicals which Damage Reproduction; * Mountain Top Removal/Coal Mining; and * Water Privatization that Damages the Environment. WORKLOAD OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS SHC has established Project Teams to advance these objectives and fundsprojects in each area. The work of SHC members involves one conference call a monthand time to read e-mail updates on the work of the Project Teams. In our workwe coordinate with the Water Sentinels Program, the Environmental QualityStrategy Team and its issue committees, the Partnerships Program, and other Clubentities and the other CICs. We are engaging a growing list of Chapters and Groupsin SHC-funded projects. Nominees must be current Sierra Clubmembers. Sierra Club of Canada (SCC) members are not eligible to apply to thisannouncement.
