REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS - Safe Healthy Communities CIC
The Conservation Governance Committee (CGC) has extended the application
period for appointing two additional members to the Safe Healthy Communities
Conservation Initiative Committee (SHC). If you would like to apply for
appointment please complete and return the application below by September

ACTION OBJECTIVES
SHC seeks to foster communities that have clean air to breathe, clean water
to drink and use for recreation, and are free of toxic waste. SHC is charged
with placing emphasis on the Board-designated area of national concern of water
quality protection. In 2007 SHC has identified strategic opportunities and
developed action objectives in the following issue areas:
* Stopping Sewage Pollution;
* Drinking Water Source Protection;
* Protecting Water Quality in Rural Communities;
* Protecting Wildlife and Humans from Chemicals which Damage Reproduction;
* Mountain Top Removal/Coal Mining; and
* Water Privatization that Damages the Environment.
WORKLOAD OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS
SHC has established Project Teams to advance these objectives and funds
projects in each area. The work of SHC members involves one conference call a month
and time to read e-mail updates on the work of the Project Teams. In our work
we coordinate with the Water Sentinels Program, the Environmental Quality
Strategy Team and its issue committees, the Partnerships Program, and other Club
entities and the other CICs. We are engaging a growing list of Chapters and Groups
in SHC-funded projects.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for SHC must possess a general knowledge of these issues and
experience in campaign management. Nominees must be current Sierra Club
members.
Sierra Club of Canada (SCC) members are not eligible to apply to this
announcement. For information on how SCC members can be appointed as
liaisons or members to CGC and its subentities, please contact [log in to unmask]
Ability and willingness to use electronic mail and to participate in
conference calls (generally in the evening) are required. Candidates need to have the
time to contribute to SHC participation and project team management in addition
to their other ongoing commitments.
