POSSIBLE SMALL BYPASS TO EAST LAKE OKOBOJI SATURDAY NIGHT

SPENCER – The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District reported a possible
bypass from a manhole on the east side of East Lake Okoboji Saturday
night.

Sanitary district staff noticed a pump failure near the Arthur Heights
lift station at 9:18 p.m. and high water levels in the lift station at
9:27. They responded to the pump failure and fixed the problem by 10:13
p.m. When they examined the area around the lift station that night,
they saw no signs of a bypass.

However on Monday, when staff revisited the site in daylight, there was
some indication that untreated wastewater had discharged from the
manhole. Staff members do not know the volume of the discharge or if it
reached the lake.
