ENERGY EXPO NEWS! Please join I-Renew for its 16th Annual I-Renew Energy EXPO, “Harvesting Clean Energy” featuring Workshops, Exhibits and Demonstrations all weekend covering renewable energy, renewable fuels, green building and energy efficiency. September 8 & 9, 2007 at Solon High School, Solon, IA (Eight miles north of Iowa City and 30 miles south of Cedar Rapids). This year we have over 60 Workshops and 70 Exhibitors! 9 to 5 Saturday, 10:30 to 4:30 Sunday. Details at www.irenew.org . The EXPO is an opportunity for the general public to join many of Iowa’s energy experts to learn new ways to live smarter, more renewable and to lessen their carbon footprint. If you don’t get your Program Guide in the mail this week, you can download it from the websiteThe event features two keynote speakers. On Saturday, September 8, Greg Pahl, author of Citizen Powered Energy Handbook and Biodiesel, will speak about a new movement called Community Supported Energy. His presentation will include examples of successful initiatives, the many advantages of community-based energy, as well as some of the obstacles that stand in the way of achieving greater community control of energy resources. The Sunday Keynote, Kate Schwennsen, an associate professor of architecture and the associate dean for academic programs in the College of Design at Iowa State University, will talk about how we can design our homes to encourage a more sustainable Iowa. Schwennsen will address how buildings are the world’s single biggest source of emissions and energy consumption and how designing smartly, in ways that are more environmentally, economically and socially sustainable, will lead to considerably less energy consumption and carbon emissions. The I-Renew Energy EXPO will offer many exhibitors, including a Clean Fuel Car Show, demonstrations of wind and solar power, a hydrogen fuel cell and electric cars to test drive. Those who walk, bike or carpool to the Energy EXPO will be entered in a drawing for a SPECIAL GIFT from Homepower Magazine. The I-Renew Energy EXPO is sponsored in part by Iowa Energy Center, Alliant Energy’s Second Nature Program, Frontier Natural Herb Company and EcoEnergy LLC. Volunteers are still needed for the EXPO! We need folks to staff the welcome booth, membership booth, booksales and silent auction, as well as to introduce speakers. Please contact [log in to unmask] to sign up!
