National Call to Action:
"Commit to Conservation" Call-In
Day
Thousands of people are expected to
participate in a "Commit to Conservation" call-in on Wednesday, October 17.
We're asking that you to call
Conservation is under attack in the Senate! When the Senate Finance Committee
provided $3 billion in outlays from conservation tax credits for the
Conservation Reserve Program and the Grasslands Reserve Program, it fell far
short of the minimum amount of money needed to adequately fund our nation's
conservation needs.
Here's the message:
"I
care about conservation programs and I call on the Senate to provide $5 billion
in additional funding for conservation in the 2007 Farm Bill."
There's a backlog of farmers who have applied to participate, but cannot due
to lack of sufficient funding. To protect our water quality, air quality and
wildlife habitat, it is time to ask the Senate for a commitment to at least $5
billion in additional funding for conservation to begin addressing the unmet
needs and keep existing programs in operation.
