MEDIA CONTACT: Jim Sievers at (319) 653-2135.

FAIRFIELD – The City of Fairfield bypassed more than 877,000 gallons of wastewater after receiving 2.75 inches of rain Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

The bypasses occurred from about 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Wastewater overflowed again from midnight to 3:30 a.m. Thursday. Discharges flowed into Crow and Cedar Creeks.

The discharges occurred at eight or more sites, including a manhole in Jefferson County Park. City crews cleaned up Thursday and limed areas where wastewater had overflowed.

Cities and industries are required to report wastewater discharges caused by wet weather on their monthly reports to the DNR.
