SUN VALLEY SANITARY DISTRICT DISCHARGES TO LAKE
MEDIA CONTACT: Kirk Mathis at (712) 243-1934.
ELLSTON – A power outage near Ellston has left part of the Sun Valley Sewer District without power, causing the main pumping station to overflow.
Untreated wastewater is flowing from the Bunker pumping station to a pond which discharges into the lake. It may be two days before power is restored to the pumping station and the wastewater flow stopped.
Extremely icy conditions have prevented sanitary district staff from addressing the problem. However not many people are directly affected as there are few people staying at the lake during the winter.
Wastewater discharges can be expected in other communities if there are more power outages,
