Google plans to build a facility in Council Bluffs and of course they
will need a lot of fill dirt to build the building. Terry Oswald
president of the loess Hills Preservation Society found out that the
construction would start soon and we were concerned that the fill
dirt would come form the Loess Hills. We found out that would be the
case. Terry called Mayor Tom Hanafan of Council Bluffs. Tom called
Google. Terry soon received a phone call from Google's
engineering firm. They told Terry that they told by Google that not
one drop of dirt was to come from the Loess Hills. The Engineer Firm
told Terry that we would have finial approval of were the fill dirt
would come form.

Mike Tramontina of the Iowa Economic Development Director met with
the Loess Hills Alliance Board last week. He explained the importance
of the Loess Hills for Iowa. The board asked if he thought the Loess
Hills land form was that important to Iowa Economic development that
when they sponsor a new company that requires new construction why
are they allowing the removal of fill dirt from the hills. Mr
Tramontina stated he had no idea that was the was happening and that
he would make sure that removal of dirt form the hills for land fill
would not be allowed for future IED projects.
